Steve Madden, former editor-in-chief of MM+M, has officially returned to the brand.

Madden will serve as editor-at-large, effective Tuesday morning.

His initial stint at the outlet began when he was named editor-in-chief in February 2019 — overseeing and directing all content creation. He left MM+M in July 2024.

In this new post, Madden will contribute to the brand’s editorial content pipeline for the website and print edition of the magazine as well as moderate panels at live events and assist in production of the annual MM+M Agency 100 list.

“In his return to MM+M, Steve gets to focus on what he loves most: writing,” said Jameson Fleming, MM+M editor-in-chief. “His experience is invaluable to both MM+M and the medical marketing industry. Everybody wins when Steve Madden is covering this space.”

Prior to joining MM+M, Madden oversaw the reimagination and redesign of Golf Magazine, a role in which he was the key architect and driver of the rebranding of the 60-year-old media property.

He also created and operated a content marketing program for Zagster, the shared mobility company.

Prior to his consulting role, Madden was the chief content officer of enthusiast publisher F+W Media. He has also served as the general manager and chief content officer of Sports on Earth, the joint venture between Major League Baseball Advanced Media and USA Today

During 11 years at health and wellness publisher Rodale, Madden oversaw the creation of the digital health platform Fitbie and was the editor-in-chief of Bicycling Magazine, which won two National Magazine Awards under his leadership.

He also held senior editorial roles at Sports Illustrated and Outdoor Explorer, and is the author of Embrace the Suck (HarperCollins), a Crossfit memoir. His writing has appeared in more than 25 publications.

Madden’s return comes almost one year to the day after Fleming was named editor-in-chief of the publication.

His hire also comes ahead of several industry events MM+M will be hosting in the fall.

This includes the 22nd annual MM+M Awards on October 9, the fourth annual MM+M Media Summit on October 30 as well as the second annual AI Deciphered conference co-hosted with fellow Haymarket Media brands PRWeek and Campaign on November 13.
