Publicis Groupe has appointed Deepti Velury as chief executive of global production.

Velury is joining from Publicis’ Epsilon, where she was chief technology and transformation officer.

In her new role, she will oversee the holding company’s global production capabilities, including content studios, AI platforms and generative AI partnerships and production hubs.

Based in London, Velury will work with the existing management team, who will report to her. This includes global chief operating officer Dan Montalbano and chief technology and product officer Colm Scanlon.

Sergio Lopez Ferrero previously held the position of executive vice-president, global head of production. Lopez Ferrero left in 2024 to join Omnicom Production as chief executive.

Velury will report directly to chairman and chief executive of the holding company Arthur Sadoun and work closely with chief strategy officer Carla Serrano.

Joining from Publicis’ data and technology arm, Velury’s experience reflects a “shift” in the production landscape, according to the holding company.

“We need a new type of modern production leader who can lead a data-driven content model. A lot of production leaders have TV backgrounds, so having a leader like Deepti who has the creative production experience as well as the background in data and tech, makes sense,” a spokesperson for the company said.

The holding company added that it is seeing a “major shift”, with identity data becoming “critical” to production.

Sadoun said: “As AI changes the rules of traditional production, today every client can access content, in a faster, cheaper, better way. But what they really need if they want to deliver business outcomes is the right content that is consistent across platforms, respects brand values, is highly personalised, instantly scaleable, and truly measurable.”

In the role, which the holding company says is newly created, Velury will use AI tool Leona, overseen by Scanlon, which has been integrated with connected identity in recent months.

Leona is an end-to-end agentic AI content engine that operates around connected identity and audiences. Leona will be used to create content across paid, earned, shared and owned channels, and is used by all of Publicis’ content production experts, the holding company claimed.

Before joining Publicis’ Epsilon in October 2024, Velury was chair and chief operating officer at Tag, a tech-led media production company, which she joined in 2019 as global head of technology and chief people officer.

Velury said: “Taking on this new role within Publicis gives me the opportunity to help revolutionise the way brands connect with audiences. I look forward to working with this talented team of technology-oriented craft experts and creators to ensure every client engagement is meaningful, personalised and powerful.”

Prior to Tag, Velury spent almost six years as chief of staff for Williams Lea Tag, and almost three as head of EMEA business transformation and change for Cushman & Wakefield. In 2015, Velury spent eight months at Jaguar Land Rover in a transformation role after an eight-year stint at consulting giant Accenture.

Speaking to Campaign in July this year at the Publicis Q2 results, Sadoun said one of the reasons the holding company is “winning” in creative is because its production platform is connected to data.

Sadoun added: “With [Velury’s] deep tech knowledge, expertise in data and craft, along with her recent experience at Epsilon, I have no doubt that Deepti is the right leader to take production at Publicis to even greater heights.”
