      Social media management and analytics provider Sprout Social has acquired media monitoring company NewsWhip.

      The transaction, which closed on Wednesday, is worth $55 million in cash plus potential performance-based earnouts of up to $10 million over the next two years, according to a Sprout Social statement.

      NewsWhip’s team will join Sprout Social. Additionally, NewsWhip cofounder and CEO Paul Quigley will become GM for Sprout’s listening business, overseeing both NewsWhip and Sprout’s listening products. 

      The acquisition brings together Sprout’s social media management platform with NewsWhip’s AI technology, empowering brands and publishers with insights to anticipate trends, manage crises and act with precision and purpose, according to a Sprout Social statement. 

      Finn Partners is handling media relations about the acquisition. Representatives from both Sprout Social and NewsWhip could not be immediately reached for comment. 

      Founded in 2011, NewsWhip is a media intelligence company that monitors millions of news and social media signals per hour with its technology. 

      Sprout Social’s social media management and analytics software offers publishing and engagement functionality, customer care, influencer marketing, advocacy and AI-powered business intelligence. Sprout’s software operates across social media networks and digital platforms. 

      In Q1, Sprout Social’s revenue was $109.3 million, up 13% compared to Q1 2024. The company saw a net loss of $11.2 million in the quarter, compared to a loss of $13.6 million in the year-ago quarter.

      Sprout Social is set to report its Q2 earnings on August 6.
